Share your time. Put your skills to work. Help shape karate in BC.
Karate BC is driven by volunteers. People across the province contribute their time, skills and experience to support our members, deliver programs and keep the organization running.
Whether you can help at an event, take on a project or join a committee, there’s a place to start.
Explore the opportunities below or email volunteer@karatebc.org to tell us how you’d like to contribute.
Ways to Volunteer
Join a Committee
Our committees bring volunteers together to plan, develop and support Karate BC’s programs and activities.
Areas where you could contribute include:
- Tournaments: Help plan and improve competitions, coordinate volunteers and support event operations.
- High performance: Contribute to the BC Team program and support athlete development.
- Coach development: Help strengthen learning opportunities and support for coaches.
- Referee development: Support the recruitment, training and development of referees and judges.
Committee work offers a way to contribute beyond a single event and help shape how Karate BC serves its members. Opportunities depend on each committee’s needs. Some positions require specific qualifications, experience or a formal appointment.
Share Your Skills
Professional and practical skills help every part of Karate BC operate effectively. You could contribute through:
- Communications, writing, graphic design and social media.
- Website maintenance, technology and process improvement.
- Finance, bookkeeping and administration.
- Fundraising, sponsorship and grant research.
- Project management, planning and volunteer coordination.
You might help with a specific project or provide ongoing support. Tell us what you enjoy doing—we may have a need you haven’t considered.
Help at an Event
Our tournaments, BC Team selection events and seminars depend on volunteers to welcome participants and keep the day running smoothly.
Roles include:
- Scorekeeping and marshalling.
- Registration, admissions and guest services.
- Hospitality and medal presentations.
- Venue setup and teardown.
- Photography and volunteer team leadership.
Many roles suit first-time volunteers. Others require training or previous experience. Each event’s registration page explains the available roles and shifts.
Why Volunteer?
Volunteering brings together people with different backgrounds and skills. You can learn from experienced volunteers, share what you know and gain hands-on experience—whether you’re preparing for post-secondary education, entering the workforce or contributing years of professional experience.
- Make a difference. Help create opportunities for athletes, coaches, officials and clubs throughout BC.
- Learn from others. Work alongside people with different skills, experience and perspectives.
- Build practical skills. Gain experience in teamwork, communication, planning, technology or event operations, depending on your role.
- Share your expertise. Put your knowledge to work and help others develop theirs.
- Build connections. Meet people who care about karate and community sport.
Find Your Fit
You don’t need to be a Karate BC member or have karate experience to express an interest. We welcome students, parents, karate practitioners, former competitors and people who want to contribute to community sport.
Choose a commitment that works for you:
- A few hours: Take an event shift or help with a defined task.
- A project: Help deliver an initiative with a clear outcome and timeline.
- An ongoing role: Join a committee or support a recurring organizational need.
Before you commit, we’ll discuss the responsibilities, expected time commitment, available support and who you’ll work with. Some roles have age, qualification, experience or screening requirements, which we’ll explain when discussing the opportunity.
Need confirmation of your volunteer hours? Letters are available upon request for contributions at events, through committees or on projects, based on verified participation and hours. Students should check with their school to confirm which activities qualify for community service requirements.
