Karate BC is very pleased to announce that Trevor Walmsley has been appointed to the World Karate Federation (WKF) Referee Commission.
This is a significant international appointment and a major accomplishment for both Trevor and Karate Canada. It has been many years since a Canadian official has held a position on this prestigious committee, which plays a key role in the development, oversight, and advancement of officiating at the highest levels of international karate.
Trevor brings more than 23 years of officiating experience to this role and currently holds the highest possible international certifications as a WKF Kumite Referee A and WKF Kata Judge A. His extensive officiating resume includes World Championships, WKF Premier League events, PKF Championships, and major international competitions across Europe, the Americas, and beyond.
In recent years alone, Trevor has officiated at events such as the WKF Premier League, Canada Games, US Open, World Police & Fire Games, PKF Championships, and the WKF World Championships. His consistent presence at the highest levels of competition reflects the trust placed in him by international federations and organizers.
In addition to this WKF appointment, Trevor:
- Is a former Vice-President (2nd VP) of Karate BC
- Served for many years as Chair of Karate BC’s Referee Committee
- Is the Chair of Karate Canada’s Referee Commission
- Is a long-standing National Referee Clinic Instructor
- Was recognized as Sport BC’s 2024 Official of the Year, an honour awarded to officials who demonstrate excellence, leadership, and long-term contribution to sport in British Columbia
Trevor’s leadership, integrity, and commitment to excellence have had a lasting impact on officials, athletes, and competitions throughout British Columbia, Canada, and internationally. His appointment to the WKF Referee Commission reflects not only his individual dedication, but also the strength and quality of officiating developed within Karate BC.
