Karate BC is pleased to announce the appointment of Brendan Flower as our new Referee Development Program Coordinator for the 2025–2026 season.
Brendan has been an active part of our community for more than 15 years, officiating at both Provincial and National levels with certifications from Karate BC and Karate Canada. He currently serves as Chief Referee for Zone 6 and has been a dedicated member of the Referee Committee. Over the years, Brendan has led referee certification clinics across Vancouver Island, mentored new officials, and supported referee development at every level.
In addition to his refereeing expertise, Brendan brings extensive leadership and governance experience, having served as Tournament Committee Chair, Zone 6 Board Director, and Secretary on the Karate BC Executive Committee. His involvement with Karate Canada at national and international events has further strengthened his understanding of referee pathways, event operations, and Safe Sport principles.
In this new role, Brendan will be working closely with the Referee Committee, staff, and Board to enhance recruitment and retention, deliver certification and training opportunities, and ensure that referees are well-supported across the Province.
Please join us in welcoming Brendan to this important role and in supporting his efforts to grow and strengthen the referee program for the future of karate in British Columbia.
