Overview Karate BC is seeking an HP Program Coordinator (HPPC) for a one-year contract to help elevate our HP programming. The HPPC will play a key leadership role in coordinating efforts across coaching, athlete development, and committee operations to ensure BC athletes are prepared for success on the national and international stage.
The HP Program Coordinator will work in partnership with the Head Coach to align strategy, program delivery, and athlete support across the Karate BC Team and broader HP initiatives.
This role includes supporting athlete wellness, aligning provincial and club-level programming, refining committee structure, and contributing to overall program delivery and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Implementation
Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of Karate BC’s HP and athlete development programs.
Work in partnership with the Head Coach to ensure that coaching strategies, training camps, athlete monitoring, and disciplinary protocols are aligned and consistently delivered.
Ensure all programming is grounded in Long-Term Development (LTD) principles — a nationally recognized model supporting age-appropriate growth and lifelong athlete participation.
Work closely with Karate Canada to align with national strategies and standards.
Support coaching staff with the athlete disciplinary process, aligned with Karate BC’s Code of Conduct and governance policies.
Assist the Treasurer and Karate BC staff in developing the HP-related annual budget and other program budgets.
Draft HP policies and documentation with the HP Committee (e.g., selection criteria, carding, athlete agreements, nomination procedures, annual HP plans).
Work with the Head Coach to create and submit an annual HP plan.
Use performance data and KPIs to inform decision-making and adapt the HP program.
Liaise with sport science, medical, and fitness professionals, in collaboration with the Head Coach and Medical Committee Chair, to integrate injury prevention and physical assessments.
Assist in recruitment and onboarding of Provincial Team coaches, managers, and other key personnel.
Governance & Committee Development
Assist in identifying and recommending a candidate for the HP Committee Chair position
Review current committee structure and member suitability; recommend improvements.
Strengthen volunteer appointment practices for committees, ensuring role clarity, accountability, and succession planning.
Club Coach Alignment & Talent Development
Build strong relationships with club coaches to enhance early athlete identification and consistent technical development.
Strengthen integration between club and provincial programming to improve athlete readiness and foster coach involvement.
Athlete Wellness & Mental Readiness
Incorporate psychological readiness and wellness tools into athlete development strategies.
Normalize Safe Sport and mental health resources for athletes and families.
Connect athletes and families with appropriate support services as required.
Communication & Coordination
Serve as the main coordinator and point of contact for all HP planning. Maintain consistent communication with club coaches, committee members, and others.
Coordinate with Karate BC committees and operational leads to ensure program alignment.
Represent Karate BC at select conferences/seminars, as approved by the Executive Director. Attend all meetings and events as requested by Karate BC.
Operational & Administrative Duties
Plan and coordinate Regional and Provincial Team Training Camps.
Coordinate with the Head Coach in tracking and evaluating progress using performance data and KPIs.
Provide quarterly and annual reports for Karate BC’s Board of Directors.
Work with CSI to monitor carded athletes and coaches.
Coordinate and mentor part-time or volunteer staff (e.g., interns, assistant coaches).
Coordinate logistics such as facility bookings, travel coordination, and equipment planning.
Manage and update all HP-related documentation and online content.

Qualifications & Skills
The ideal candidate will possess:
Proven experience coordinating HP or athlete development programs in amateur sport
Strong understanding of LTD principles, athlete pathways, and coach development
Excellent communication, coordination, and project management skills
Familiarity with Safe Sport, athlete wellness best practices, and psychological readiness
Basic understanding of budgeting and financial management
Strong organizational and administrative skills (MS Office, Google Workspace)
Experience working with volunteers, committees, and club coaches
Competitive experience at the HP level is an asset
NCCP Competition Development certification or higher is an asset
