Overview
Karate BC is seeking dynamic, motivated, and experienced coaches to join the BC Team coaching staff for the 2025–2026 season. This is an excellent opportunity to gain both provincial and national-level coaching experience while guiding BC’s top athletes toward success at the U21/Senior and Junior 2026 Karate Canada National Championships. Successful candidates will play a key role in high-performance preparation and athlete support leading up to and during these National Team selection events.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver coaching support at BC Team trainings and the Karate Canada National Championships.
- Coach and mentor BC Team athletes under the direction of the Head Coach.
- Supervise athletes at the hotel, during training sessions, competition, and official events (e.g., banquet).
- Attend all full BC Team training days and select regional sessions.
- Collaborate actively with the Team Manager, Head Coach, Assistant Coaches, athletes, parents, and club coaches.
- Other duties as assigned (ie. Help with weigh ins, signing athletes in/out).
- Conduct performance evaluations identifying strengths, areas for improvement, and alignment with Karate BC’s high-performance pathway.
- Uphold Karate BC’s values of inclusivity, integrity, and community, fostering a positive and supportive team culture.

- Promote ethical conduct and uphold Safe Sport principles.
- Foster positive physical and mental environments for athletes.
- Report any concerns related to abuse, harassment, bullying, or discrimination.
Supervision
Coaches will report directly to the BC Team Head Coach and will be accountable to Karate BC’s Executive Committee through the High Performance Committee Chair.
Required Qualifications
- Current Karate BC member in good standing.
- Previous experience coaching kata and/or kumite at the Karate Canada Nationals, BC Winter Games, Canada Games, or equivalent.
- Proven experience training high-performance karate athletes.
- NCCP Certification: Minimum Competition-Introduction Certified or Competition-Development Certified/Trained, or the ability to attain certification prior to Nationals.
- The ratio of certified coaches will adhere to Karate Canada’s guidelines.
- NCCP Module Completion of Understanding the Rule of Two and Mental Health in Sport (by December 2025).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent administrative, organizational, and collaboration abilities.
- BC Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check (within the last 3 years).

Assets (Optional)
- Certification or experience in Strength & Conditioning or Sport Psychology.
Compensation
- Honorarium: $250/day (includes per diem)
- Travel Expenses: Approved expenses (outside the Lower Mainland) reimbursed separately
