In 2013, the brothers Geoffrey and Jean Newell made history by being the first athletes to bring back silver for Canada at the Pan American Championships in team kata. Two years before, Geoffrey had become the youngest judge at both Nationals and the USA Open at the age of 15. Later, Jean would repeat the same exploit. The most recent PKF Championships in Monterrey, Mexico marked their third as officials and, as usual, it was a very rewarding experience including judging some of the best athletes in the world, working with their referee friends and, of course, testing for their next levels. Geoffrey and Jean both earned their Kumite Judge A and Kata Judge B licences.
Rosella Ng successfully upgraded to Referee A at the same PKF Championships in Monterrey this past May 2025.
