RUSSIA SUPPORTS
KARATE |
The political
leadership of Russia was fully informed by the World
Karate Federation (WKF) President, Mr. Espinos and the
WKF Gen. Secretary, Mr. Yerolimpos, about karate’s
efforts to be included in the Olympic Games program. The
two men took the opportunity to develop their views on
the matter on the occasion of their official visit to
Russia, where they attended the finals of the national
senior championships as official guests of the Minster
of Defense and Internal Affairs of Mr. Putin’s
government and President of the National Karate
Federation of Russia, Sergei Shoigu. The Russian
officials expressed their conviction that karate will be
included in the program of the Olympic Games and
promised to contribute with all their power towards that
direction. Besides, the sport is widely practiced in the
country by many officers of the government. Also
discussed was Moscow’s candidature for hosting the
European Senior Championships of 2004. The World
Karate Championships take place in Madrid next
week. For information phone Karate BC @
