4. 6th World Games, Akita, Japan

 

Norma Foster named as one of only three officials from the Pan Americas to

participate in the World Games!

The World Games is an international multi-sports event hosted by the International

World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee.

The 6th World Games welcomes 3250 athletes and officials from 90 countries.

Using only existing facilities, 31 Official and Demonstration Sports

(or 170 sport disciplines) will be held at 21 venues throughout the Akita

prefecture, Japan. A number of cultural functions will also give everyone an

opportunity to share in the excitement.

5. Japanese Goodwill Tournament, Duncan BC

6. 1st Karate BC Open Tournament

 

For the first time ever, Karate BC is hosting an Open Tournament!

September 22, 2001

British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Burnaby,BC  Canada

 

The competition will be conducted under the NEW RULES OF THE WORLD KARATE

FEDERATION

Rules can be downloaded free at www.wkf.net

A clinic on the new rules will be held on Friday, September 21st at the

Radisson Hotel, 4331 Dominion Street, Burnaby at 6:00 pm.

These rules will probably be used for Karate in the Olympics.

momentous event run smoothly.  The following positions need to be filled:

7. 2nd Annual Karate BC Golf Tounament

 

On August 19, 2001 Karate BC will be hosting its 2nd Golf Tournament at

Swan-e-set Golf and Country Club.  We chose this course due to the great

time that was had by all last year.

8.  Tom Mah School of Karate (TMSK) just moved into its new location. 

This isn't just a typical training centre.  Not only does it offer a training

hall but it is also equipped with all the bells and whistles for visiting

students who need accommadations!

9. Congratulations to Nathan Evans, BC Team member, who is the recipient

of a $3000 scholarship through the Petro Canada Olympic Torch Scholarship

Fund.  Congratulations Nathan and a big "Thank You" to Petro Can.  Nathan has

trained hard and is as deserving of this as any hard-working dedicated BC

Team athlete.  It also proves that it pays to apply!

10. Toshi Uchiage, NKA Junior Athlete of the Year for 2001, and National

Champion, Nancy Sham of Richmond's Steveston Karate Club along with Lisa

Hogan of Valley Shidokan Chilliwack, have qualified to represent Canada

at the 2nd World Junior and Cadet Championships in Athens, Greece from October

12th to 14th this year. Lisa was Karate BC's Female Grand Champion in 2000.

Let's wish them the best as they fight for Canada.
