1. Report on 4th Tokyo Ladies' Cup, July 11- 15, 2001
COMPETITION
23 countries and 180 competitors participated
Spain with a total of 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals
and Japan, with 2
gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze dominated the results tables.
The 2 golds were
in individual kata (Wakai) and open kumite (Shibuya). Japan
also scored a
silver in kata (Wakabayashi) with Spain hot on their heels
taking two
bronzes. Spain won team kata with an excellent kata
performance and flawless
bunkai, followed by Venezuela for silver, Malaysia and
Thailand taking
bronzes. Spain also
collected a gold for team kumite, fighting Slovakia for
the top place, Japan and Luxembourg taking bronze.

3. 1st Karate BC Open Tournament
For the first time ever, Karate BC is hosting an Open
Tournament!
September 22, 2001
British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Burnaby,
BC Canada
The competition will be conducted under the NEW RULES OF THE
WORLD KARATE
FEDERATION
Rules can be downloaded free at www.wkf.net A clinic on the new rules will
be held on Friday, September 21st at BCIT at 7:00 pm. These rules will
probably be used for
Karate in the Olympics.

4. 2nd Annual Karate BC Golf Tounament
On August 19, 2001 Karate BC will be hosting its 2nd Golf
tournament at
Swan-e-set Golf and Country Club. We chose this course due to the great
time that was had by all last year.

5. Attention KUMITE
fighters !!!!!
By January 2002 all bare-cloth sparring mitts will not be
permitted in
Karate BC tournaments.
Leather and soft plastic covered cloth mitts are
to be used only.
Gloves will be red or blue.
The Adidas (recently approved by the WKF) is the official
WKF mitts.

6. Very pleased to announce the recent grading results from
the
Yoshukai International Karate Association summer camp (Natsu
Keiko
2001). Twenty
Canadians attended the camp and ten participated in the
challenging examination process and kumite.
