WKF ATHLETES COMMISSION
The Directing Committee of the World Karate Federation has decided to form an Athletes Commission, which will be under the co-ordination of George Yerolimpus, WKF General Secretary and will be chaired by the well known athlete, Christophe Pinna of France. Delta's Lisa Ling, former national champion and Director of Athletes Canada, has been picked to represent the Pan American Continent on this new historic commission.

. This commission will consist of 7 members: Mr Yerolimpus as liaison with the WKF, Christophe Pinna as chairman and 5 members, one from each continent. Lisa has been chosen as representative of the American continent, because of the excellent presentation and effort she made during 2008 Organizing Committee bid for Toronto.

"The intention is to form a group of young and competent people, karate athletes with international presence and recognition, who will promote the international movement of our sport and who will create the administrative structure of this movement.

" I hope that you will accept this invitation and will contribute in our effort to define the objectives and goals of our sports movement, as it is required by every organized and modern sport nowadays." Mr. Yerolimpus stated in a message to Lisa.

It is expected that the members of the commission will meet at least once a year during the World Championships and will present a full report on the activities of the Athletes Commission in every WKF Congress.

Sunday November 18th will be the first in a series of training sessions as the BC Karate squad prepares for the 2002 National Black Belt Championships in Toronto June 4 - 6.

Head Coach Ron Bagley, himself a national champion in last years master event, sees a lot of potential in this years hopefuls. "We'll whip them into shape by June", says Coach Bagley. He's assisted by Kata Coach Darren Choo, and assistant coaches Dave Bentley and Ian Atkin. The team will be trimmed after points are tallied after the 2002 Spring Championships.

All participants are in competition for the two spots per division in each event. The training sessions will take place at North Vancouver's Capilano College. Sessions are open to non team members.
