President's Message

June 2011

Karate BC endeavours to meet the needs of each of its member clubs and in order to do that we need to have regular, two-way communication with clubs and members. We distribute both print and electronic newsletters to keep you up-to-date on what is happening in the clubs around the province, how members have excelled in their karate training, to share some very inspiring personal stories, as well as current events on the national karate scene. Although we hope these vehicles meet your needs, we also realize that communication has to be more than just newsletters.

We have committees established to help serve the needs of you, as a member of Karate BC. Please see our list of committees on our website: http://www.karatebc.org/committee/. For over thirty-five years our association has been blessed with committed people such as you will find on these committees. Their expertise and dedication have made the association what it is today.

If you are just browsing our web site, we hope you will consider joining our association. If you are a new member to Karate BC and have questions about any aspect of how the association runs, please feel free to contact any Board member to air your enquiry. If you are an established member and you have questions, concerns or ideas - again, let us know so we can better meet your needs.

One of our most treasured offerings is our involvement in the BC Winter Games. We offer competition for 12-13 year olds in both kata and kumite. In addition to offering competitive events for this age group we also offer Junior Official development at the BC Winter Games. These 16-17 year olds have all been certified at either Regional or Provincial levels prior to the Games and their expertise is a welcome addition to the Karate experience at this event. At the upcoming 2012 BC Winter Games we will also introduce Junior Coaches to complement the adult male and female coaches required for each Zone. We are excited about this new development and fully expect these 16-17 year olds to add to the flavour of the Games.

Just think when a young person is leaving high school, he/she could possibly add to his resume such prestigious achievements such as Provincial or National Champion, Provincially certified Karate Official and Provincially certified Karate Coach. In today's world, these achievements are noteworthy. Karate BC is proud as we are helping to develop well-rounded karate-ka who are committed to developing their sport and art.
