Mr. James Johnson, was instrumental in forming Karate BC and is currently the Executive Director of the non-profit organization. He is also a member of the Marketing Committee, a Coaching Coordinator of BC, the editor of the Newsletter Committee and an NCCP Master Technical Course Conductor.

James became involved in karate as a means of self-defense over 30 years ago. He has studied his way through Gima-Ha Shoto-Ryu to a fifth degree black belt (Godan). As a result of his hard work James has been a National Kumite Champion four times, a National Karate Association (NKA) Hall of Fame Inductee (1991), and a Ross Rumbell Award Winner. He was also the National Coach and Captain in 1980. At present James is the Chief Instructor of Burnaby Karate Club and has been since the mid 1980’s.

James has been a past president of Karate BC and NKA as well. Currently he is a member of the Word Karate Federation Board of Directors, a Pan American Technical Committee member, and chair of the NKA NCCP Committee.
