The
North American Shotokan Association (NASKA) is a North American branch of the
Japan Karate Association, teaching traditional Shotokan Karate-do.
Founded in 1989, NASKA has member dojos in communities throughout
British Columbia. Each NASKA dojo is also a member of the Japan Karate
Association, Karate B.C. and the National Karate Association.
Our Chief Instructor is Yasuo Sakurai Shihan (6th dan). Sakurai
Shihan makes regular visits to teach at NASKA seminars and ensure that
we perform karate according to the current JKA standard.
The
Chair of the NASKA Technical Committee is Don Sharp Sensei (4th
dan). Sharp Sensei is
well known for his many tournament victories, including the gold medal in the
1996 Shoto Cup JKA World Championship and silver medal in the 1997
Pan-American Games. He teaches two
NASKA seminars each month: brown and
black belt training and all level training.
In addition to these monthly seminars, NASKA also holds an annual summer
camp, tournaments, an annual retreat for brown and black belts, and special
seminars with visiting instructors.
